The 20 Minute Region
The small, varied areas are one of the many advantages of this region. No matter where you choose to work and live the city is never far way. For the past 30 years, the Stavanger Region has been at the forefront of developing Norway into a gas and oil nation. This has made the region home to many different companies within a number of key industries. The cities cultural and leisure opportunities have grown to meet the expectations of its cosmopolitan inhabitants. In 2008, the Stavanger Region will be the European capitol of Culture. As Stavanger prepares for its reign over the next two years, the focus on culture will serve to further strengthen and develop the city’s unique personality. Greater Stavanger’s effort to build and maintain a strong research and development environment was rewarded in 2005 when Stavanger became home to Norway`s 5th university.
